Meads of Middlecroft, and Five Wells Farm in the White Peak, are excited to offer our traditionally reared beef, lamb and pork and other farmhouse products. Welcome to our site.

We're Meads of Middlecroft, working alongside Five Wells Farm up in the Derbyshire White Peak. Together, we raise our own beef, lamb and pork in the Peak District and in Calow, using normal, traditional methods, no rushing an animal to grow faster than it should, feed on grass and locally grown grain and without any hormones or growth enhancers. Our beef cattle and sheep graze outside for most of the year and eat peak district meadow hay in winter. And that's where the flavour comes from — slow grown, eating what nature intended.

Our beef, lamb and pork comes straight off the farm — animals we've reared ourselves, given time to grow the way nature intended. We're not interested in cutting corners, and you can taste the difference. Whether it's a joint for Sunday dinner or something for the freezer, have a look through what we've got and get it ordered.

Cured Meats

Our bacon's dry cured slowly and properly, not pumped full of water and saline like a lot of what you'll find in the shops — from properly fat pigs not sad lean starved pigs.
Same goes for our gammon: cured with time and care, so it's got a proper depth of flavour whether you're boiling it whole for a joint or frying up a steak for breakfast. It takes patience to do it right, but that's how you get proper flavour.

How It Works

  1. Order online – Pick what you want from the fresh and cured ranges and get it in your basket.
  2. Choose your week – At checkout, tell us which week you'd like it. We prepare orders fresh, ready by the first Friday, a week after you order. This gives us time to take the animals into the butcher and get you the freshest possible meat.
  3. Come and get it, or we'll bring it to you:

    Collect it yourself from us in Staveley, near Chesterfield — Friday evening or Saturday, or from Five Wells Farm. Please contact us to organise a time.
    Or we'll deliver it Saturday morning, if you're within about 15 miles of Chesterfield (that takes in Sheffield, Worksop, Retford, Mansfield, Alfreton and round about), as long as you are above the minimum delivery order.
